Sport at Fig Tree Pocket State School

Sport and physical activity are an integral part of life at Fig Tree Pocket State School. Our comprehensive program promotes physical fitness, teamwork, resilience and a lifelong commitment to healthy, active living.

Health and Physical Education

All students from Prep to Year 6 participate in weekly Health and Physical Education (HPE) lessons delivered by a specialist HPE teacher. These lessons develop fundamental movement skills, game sense, teamwork, strategy and personal fitness, aligned with the Australian Curriculum.

Swimming and Water Safety

Our structured swimming and water safety program ensures students build confidence and capability in the water at key stages of development.

  • Term 1: Weekly swimming lessons for all Year 4, 5 and 6 students.
  • Term 3: A two-week intensive swimming block for Prep students, held daily during Weeks 9 and 10.
  • Term 4: Weekly swimming lessons for Year 1, 2 and 3 students.

Through this progressive program, students develop essential water safety knowledge and swimming skills.

Interschool Sport – Year 5 and 6

Year 5 and 6 students have the opportunity to participate in Interschool Sport, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship and school pride.

Students nominate from a selection of four sports each semester:

  • Term 2: Students compete in their chosen sport over a five-week competition against other schools.
  • Terms 3 and 4: Students participate in a different nominated sport across a further five-week competition period.

This program provides valuable competitive experience in a supportive environment.
