Music at Fig Tree Pocket State School
Music is an important and vibrant part of school life at Fig Tree Pocket State School. Our comprehensive music program provides students with opportunities to develop creativity, confidence and performance skills from Prep through to Year 6.
Classroom Music Program
All students from Prep to Year 6 participate in a weekly Classroom Music lesson. These 30-minute sessions build foundational musical skills through singing, rhythm, movement, listening and instrumental exploration. The program supports the Australian Curriculum and fosters a lifelong appreciation of music.
Instrumental Music – Strings
The Strings program is introduced in Year 3. At the end of Year 2, students are invited to participate in the program and begin their instrumental learning journey the following year.
Students may learn instruments such as:
- Violin
- Viola
- Cello
- Double Bass
Students receive:
- Group lessons during school time
- Orchestra rehearsals held before school
- Opportunities to perform at assemblies and community events
The Strings program nurtures teamwork, discipline and musical excellence while providing valuable performance experience.
Instrumental Music – Band
The Band program is introduced in Year 4. At the end of Year 3, students are invited to audition and offered positions in the program.
Students may learn instruments such as:
- Flute
- Clarinet
- Saxophone
- Trumpet
- Trombone
- Euphonium
- Percussion
Students participate in:
- Group lessons during school time
- Band rehearsals held before school
- Performance opportunities at assemblies and community events
Through the Band program, students develop leadership, collaboration and performance confidence while contributing to the rich musical culture of our school.
Choir
Our Choir program provides students with the opportunity to develop vocal technique, musicality and stage presence in a supportive and inclusive environment.
- Junior Choir offers younger students the opportunity to build confidence, learn part-singing and develop performance skills.
- Senior Choir extends students' vocal abilities through more advanced repertoire, harmonies and performance experiences.
Choir rehearsals foster teamwork, listening skills and a strong sense of belonging, while providing regular opportunities to perform at school events and within the wider community.
Key Performance Opportunities
Students involved in the Strings, Band and Choir programs participate in two major showcase events each year:
- Winter Concert – End of Term 2
- Picnic Concert – End of Term 4
These special events celebrate students' musical growth and provide memorable performance experiences for our school community.
