Fig Tree Pocket State School is an Independent Public School (IPS). Information about the Queensland Independent Schools initiative may be accessed on the
Department's website.As an IPS, Fig Tree Pocket State School must have a governance structure that values community participation, overseen by a School Council.
The Fig Tree Pocket State School community has elected a group of parents and staff from the school community to form a School Council whose principal goal is to work together to improve student learning outcomes.
The School Council:
engages and collaborates with the broader school and local community to develop, implement and monitor the broad strategic direction of the school;
approves plans and policies of the school of a strategic nature;
advises the school's principal about strategic matters; and
- must perform its functions in a way that achieves the best learning outcomes for the school's students.
The School Council is independent of the P&C but works closely with the P&C and school community members and representatives on matters of shared importance relating to the development and implementation of strategic plans.
